Revised with a New Publisher.
I am happy to announce the upcoming publication of Sword Fighting in the Mythology of Star Wars, a revised edition of the NBK Publishing title Shimmering Sword: Samurai, Western, and Star Wars Sword Fighting. Tentative publication is Fall 2008.
This webpage is no longer a platform for Shimmering Sword and will evolve into a personal webpage for author Nick Jamilla and his forthcoming multi-media projects.
If you want to order Shimmering Sword, you can do so by going to Amazon.com (US only) or click on the "Order Information" tab. Copies of Shimmering Sword are available while supplies last (about 50 of the 1,500 original print run left).
Please note that the new book published by McFarland Publishing has nothing to do with mythology or Joseph Campbell. The text examines Star Wars lightsaber fighting in the context of historical sword fighting and the choreography in the six Star Wars films.

Original Book Still Available
Nick Jamilla’s book Shimmering Sword: Samurai, Western, and Star Wars Sword Fighting takes a look at the Jedi Knight from a swordsman’s perspective. A student of Western fencing, aikido, kendo, and jodo, Nick Jamilla [pronounced ha meal ya] has taken his twenty years of experience in the martial arts to interpret the real life significance of Jedi lightsaber fighting.
Starting from the premise of what lightsaber fighting would look like if a lightsaber existed in the real world, Shimmering Sword delves into the Star Wars universe by comparing sword culture on Earth to Jedi Knight lightsaber culture in Lucas’s films. Jamilla’s book explains how fear and honor have regulated the life of swordsmen and how the sword was wielded by men in battle and in duels. He examines real world warriors who have influenced the Jedi Knight and the ancient tradition of Master-Apprentice instruction which was the preferred method of training swordsmen. His book concludes by taking an in-depth look at the lightsaber fights in the Star Wars films. You will be surprised at the sophistication and complexity of the Star Wars lightsaber fight.
Shimmering Sword gives the Star Wars movie-goer a better appreciation for the Star Wars saga. |
